Trieres - Greek Naval Warfare c.400BC.

Introduction.

The Trieres (plural: Triereis) was the pinnacle of maritime military technology in the Mediterranian for several hundred years. Yet not one single wreck, no detailed description and not one accurate drawing of one survives.

What we know of them has been painstakingly collected from a myriad of sources - and a modern reconstruction of a Trieres has been built from which we have reasonable estimates of their performance. From what I can tell, little is known about how they were used in large scale battles.

This project is to write a computer game - or perhaps 'simulation' is a better word - of the kinds of large-scale battles these ships are known to have engaged in.
